NEW SMART MATERIALS VIA METAL MEDIATED MACROMOLECULAR ENGINEERING: FROM COMPLEX TO NANO STRUCTURES

1st – 12th September 2008,
Dedeman Hotel and Resort, Antalya, Turkey

Directors
Dr. E. Khosravi (Durham University, UK)
Prof. Y. Yagci (Istanbul Technical University, Turkey)
Prof. Y. V. Saveyev (Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Kiev, Ukraine)

Over the last few years there have been remarkable strong developments with an incredible speed in various directions regarding the synthesis of smart materials via four powerful metal mediated macromolecular engineering techniques; Anionic, ROMP, ATRP and Click Chemistry.  The ASI will discuss the developments of these four techniques and evaluate their potential in the synthesis of smart materials from complex structures (grafts, brushes, hyperbranched materials, dendrimers, etc) to nanostructures (self-assembly, nano-size, etc) for a wide range of applications in advanced technology particularly in the field of nanotechnology.

The overall aim is to bring together the leading scientists in the field to:

  1. Discuss the fundamental aspects and recent developments of these four metal mediated techniques.
  2. Evaluate smart materials produced by these processes.
  3. Explore the potential of these macromolecular engineering tools in producing challenging smart materials.
  4. Provide the opportunity for the young researchers to learn the latest exciting achievements and discuss future challenges in the synthesis of smart materials.

Venue

The NATO ASI will be held at the Dedeman Hotel and Resort, located on the Seaside in Antalya, Turkey.
